Microsoft Demos Office 15 & Windows Live Metro

Windows President, Steve Sinofsky’s article about Windows 8 on ARM, Microsoft shared a video demonstrating how the product looks as of now. During the demo, Microsoft showed what Office 15 will look like on a tablet and the Metro version of Microsoft’s Windows Live suite of applications. Here are the screenshots:

How to Configure the Transparency of Window Borders in Windows 7

Microsoft may brag about how great the transparency effects of Windows 7 Aero are but I do not personally see that it adds much to my computing experience. In fact, the transparent borders on windows of Aero themes are a problem when I want to make screenshots for articles.

However, the transparency effects can be configured to suit individual preferences and here is the procedure:

1. Right-click on an empty spot on the desktop.
2. Select “Personalize” from the context menu.
3. At the bottom of the Personalize dialog window, click “Windows Color”.
4. A new window will open as illustrated in the graphic below. The section of interest is outlined in red.
5. To disable transparency effects, remove any check by “Enable transparency”.
6. The transparency effect can be also be kept but with the amount of transparency controlled with the slide bar marked “Color intensity”. Place the mouse pointer on the slide, hold down the left click and move the slide as desired.
7. Any changes you apply can be seen immediately.
8. Once you have configured the settings to your liking, click the button “Save changes”.

And there you are—make them solid or transparent, whichever way you like your windows borders.

Networking

The bottom right of your screen should look like this on a wired network:

The middle icon is the network icon. On a wireless network right click to see available networks. Click on connect by the network you want to connect to and provide the password when required.
Click once on the network icon to see what network you are connected to, click on the link to open “Network and sharing center”.
If you want to share files/folders over the network or use files/folders shared by others, set up your shares or make sure you can access the network shares now.

I don’t use the public folders or the Homegroup options, so I just use the good old right click and choose Properties then click on the Sharing tab and go through the options from there………..
